Mortgage Adviser L3

Mortgage Adviser – Level 3

Standard Overview

The role of a qualified mortgage adviser is to identify and satisfy customer mortgage requirements and associated protection needs, through fully compliant regulated meetings. These meetings can take place in a variety of environments, depending on the type of employer including face to face (either in business premises or in a customer’s home) or over the telephone.

In addition to giving advice on appropriate mortgage products, the mortgage adviser also advises on related protection products including life assurance, critical illness, accident, sickness and unemployment, income protection and buildings and contents insurance.

This apprenticeship offers an ideal entry point for a career in the mortgage advice sector or for potential progression into other Financial Services roles and can attract candidates from various backgrounds with differing skills and experience.

Facilitation of Assessment

DSW has always had a ‘digital by default’ approach to end-point assessment; this allows us to provide greater flexibility for all stakeholders while reducing fees and our carbon footprint.

  • Interviews and presentations are conducted using web conferencing platforms and we’re flexible enough to use a platform of the employer’s choosing when required.
  • Written exams, MCQs and Case Studies are carried out online using an invigilated assessment platform
  • Portfolios and Projects are submitted to DSW in digital format for assessment
  • Our assessments are also administered using an online platform, epaPRO, which provides training providers with access to results, reports and dashboards.

This is all supported by named account managers and operations contacts who are here to support you at each step of the EPA journey.

Assessment Methods

This standard has three assessment methods including:

Portfolio of Evidence Supported by Reflective Discussion
  • Evidence is collected during the on-programme phase and after the gateway has been achieved
  • The evidence will be a blend of pre and post-gateway evidence
  • The duration of the reflective discussion will be 60 minutes
  • Explores the content of the portfolio
  • Will consist of 13 questions
Video Recorded Role-Play Scenario
  • A simulated activity designed to observe the apprentice assisting a client
  • Video recorded by the training provider

Grading

There are three levels of outcome for this standard – Fail, Pass and Distinction.

Each Learning Outcome has its own descriptor on how to achieve a pass or a distinction, where these are not evidenced at this level it will be graded as a fail.

The apprentice must Achieve a minimum of 50% of the Learning Outcomes within the Role Play in order to progress to the next assessment method.

In order for the Apprentice to progress to the Reflective Discussion, a minimum of 16 Learning Outcomes must be met at a Pass or Distinction level within the Portfolio.

All Learning Outcomes must be met at pass level via a combination of the Role Play and the Portfolio of evidence supported by a Reflective Discussion to achieve a pass overall.

In order to achieve a Distinction, in addition to meeting the Pass criteria the Apprentice must provide evidence of distinction differentiated performance in at least 1 Learning Outcome for each of the 16 defined competencies in each of:

  • Role Play
  • The Portfolio supported by Professional Discussion in both the on programme and end point assessment period evidence.

The grading in this Apprenticeship is cumulative and the final grade depends on the outcome of all assessment methods, however the Apprentice must meet 50% of the Learning Outcomes at a pass in the Role Play in order to progress onto the Portfolio assessment.
