Information Communication Technician
Level: 3
Standard Number: ST0973
Overview
Information Communications Technicians (ICTs) are at the heart of today’s digital world, ensuring organisations can operate efficiently, securely, and effectively. Found in every sector and organisation size, ICTs install, configure, maintain, and support the technology and communication systems that keep businesses connected and productive.
As technology continues to evolve, ICTs also gain experience working with emerging solutions such as artificial intelligence, automation, cloud platforms, and modern communication technologies. They develop an understanding of sustainability within IT, helping organisations improve efficiency, reduce waste, and support environmentally responsible digital practices.

Assessment
The new assessment plans have one mandated and one secondary assessment method.
Mandated Method: Professional Discussion
Apprentices take part in a structured professional discussion with an independent assessor to demonstrate how they apply their technical knowledge, skills and behaviours in the workplace. They’ll use examples from their role and explain their approach to technical solutions, problem-solving, stakeholder needs and professional practice.
Secondary Method: Portfolio
Apprentices compile a portfolio of workplace evidence demonstrating how they apply their technical knowledge and skills in practice. This includes examples of installing, maintaining and troubleshooting IT systems, resolving technical issues and supporting users, while following organisational procedures.
